٤٤ - واختتم كلمته بقوله إنه في الوقت الذي تتسع فيه مسؤوليات اﻷمم المتحدة بصورة أكبر من أي وقت مضى، ينبغي على الدول اﻷعضاء أن تهتم اهتماما خاصا بسبل تمويل أعمال المنظمة.

29. at a time when economic issues were being raised with such urgency and the international community was redoubling its efforts to provide economic and institutional responses to the problems of globalization, there were some attempts in the United Nations to curtail the Organization’s role in that vital area.
٢٩ - ومضى يقول إنه في الوقت الذي تثار فيه المسائل الاقتصادية بهذه الدرجة من اﻹلحاح ويضاعف فيه المجتمع الدولي من جهوده ﻹيجاد حلول اقتصادية ومؤسساتية لمشاكل العولمة، تبذل محاولات داخل اﻷمم المتحدة لتقليص دور المنظمة في هذا المجال الحيوي.

10. The CHAIRMAN said that at a time when the Middle East region was passing through a complex period of transition, the Committee must act even more decisively and play a greater role in the current peace process so that it would lead to the enjoyment of the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people and a peaceful settlement in the region that was comprehensive, just and lasting.
