24. Two countries provided support within the framework of an initiative related to the UNCCD, and another two provided support within a framework other than UNCCD, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) or the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The overall scope will be to assess the status and trends regarding such knowledge, the impact of biodiversity and ecosystem services on human well-being and the effectiveness of responses, including the Strategic Plan and its Aichi Biodiversity Targets and the national biodiversity strategies and action plans developed under the Convention on Biological Diversity.

199. In order to avoid duplication, some States suggested that FAO should coordinate with the United Nations Environment Programme and the Convention on Biological Diversity in efforts to develop a database of information on ecologically and biologically significant areas.

The aim is to help ensure the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, based on the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 20112020 and its Aichi Biodiversity Targets, adopted by the Convention on Biological Diversity as an overarching framework on biodiversity for all stakeholders, and other biodiversity targets linked to multilateral environmental agreements.

They also called for action to accelerate the work on the development related mandate concerning the TRIPS Agreement and the implementation related issues in the Doha Ministerial Declaration, especially on the issues of making intellectual property rules of TRIPS supportive of the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity as well as trade-related aspects of the TRIPS and Public Health.
