Chile ratified the Inter-American Convention on the Granting of Political Rights to Women and the Convention on the Granting of Civil Rights to Women, both signed in 1948.

Argentina was in the process of approving an Inter-American Convention on international trafficking in minors, adopted at the Fifth Inter-American Specialized Conference on Private International Law.

123. The Special Rapporteur welcomes the fact that complaints from individuals, groups and legally recognized NGOs are entertained by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and that consequently the Inter-American Convention on Human Rights is ensured of follow-up.

In that regard, the Inter-American Convention against the Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives and Other Related Materials, signed in November 1997, could be extremely useful in connection with the future work of the United Nations in the field in question.

By Law 605 of 21 June 1995 the Dominican Government ratified the “Inter-American Convention to Prevent, Punish and Eradicate Violence Against Women.” This step marked a very significant achievement, since our legal framework presented major lacunae in terms of the treatment and management of violence against women.
١٣٥ - وبالقانون رقم ٦٠٥ الصادر في ٢١ حزيران/يونيه ١٩٩٥، صدقت الحكومة الدومينيكية على " اتفاقية الدول اﻷمريكية لمنع العنف ضد المرأة والمعاقبة عليه واستئصاله " . ويمثل هذا اﻹجراء إنجازا ذا شأن أمكن بفضله ﻹطارنا القضائي والقانوني أن يفسح مجالات بالغة اﻷهمية فيما يتعلق بمعالجة العنف ضد المرأة والسيطرة عليه.

155. The Committee also welcomes the creation in 1989 of the National Secretariat of Family Affairs, the adoption of a new Family Code, the Government's ratification in August 1995 of the 1994 Inter-American Convention on the Prevention, Punishment and Eradication of Violence against Women (Convention of Belém do Pará), and the establishment of the Salvador Institute for the Development of Women and the Salvadoran Juvenile Protection Institute.

Recommendation 20.
