The Special Rapporteur would like to refer to article 1 of the 1926 slavery Convention, which provides:

Article 1 of the 1926 slavery Convention states:

Although that horrendous practice has been brought to an end, its effects and consequences continue to be with us. That remains true in spite of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, the slavery Convention Protocol in 1955, the Durban Declaration in 2001 and more.
وعلى الرغم من اعتماد الإعلان العالمي لحقوق الإنسان عام 1948، وبروتوكول اتفاقية الرق عام 1955، وإعلان ديربان عام 2001، وما إلى ذلك، ومن وضع حد لهذا العمل الشنيع، لا نزال نلمس آثاره وتبعاته حتى اليوم.

25. From the start, the Working Group had focused on the examination of the implementation of the 1926 slavery Convention; slavery-like practices such as apartheid and colonialism; and various manifestations of slavery and slavery-like practices.
25- وقد ركز الفريق العامل منذ بدايته في عام 1974 على بحث تنفيذ اتفاقية الرق لعام 1926 وبحث الممارسات الشبيهة بالرق مثل الفصل العنصري والاستعمار؛ وشتى مظاهر الرق والممارسات الشبيهة بالرق.

That visit started a process of dialogue that afterwards evolved into informal meetings between members of the Working Group and representatives of States who voluntarily agreed to debate the reasons for those States failing to ratify the slavery Convention.
وهذه الزيارة - التي بدأت عملية حوار تطورت بعد ذلك إلى اجتماعات غير رسمية بين أعضاء الفريق العامل وممثلي الدول الذين وافقوا طواعية على مناقشة أسباب عدم تصديق تلك الدول على اتفاقية الرق.

8. In its reply, the Government of Cuba recalled that it has ratified the slavery Convention, the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others, and the Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery.
8- أشارت كوبا في ردها إلى أنها قد صدقت على اتفاقية الرق واتفاقية قمع الاتجار بالأشخاص واستغلال بغاء الغير والاتفاقية التكميلية لإبطال الرق وتجارة الرقيق والأعراف والممارسات الشبيهة بالرق.
