115. It is noted that the State party, especially since the adoption of the new Constitution in 1993, has taken a number of positive measures in the field of law reform to combat various forms of racial discrimination which fall within the areas covered by the Convention, including the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms which, inter alia, contains provisions for the protection of national and ethnic minorities.
٥١١- ويُلاحظ أن الدولة الطرف، سيما منذ اعتماد الدستور الجديد في عام ٣٩٩١، اتخذت عدداً من التدابير اﻹيجابية في ميدان اصلاح القوانين بهدف مكافحة مختلف أشكال التمييز العنصري التي تشملها الاتفاقية، بما في ذلك ميثاق الحقوق والحريات اﻷساسية الذي يتضمن، فيما يتضمن، أحكاماً بحماية اﻷقليات الوطنية واﻹثنية.

101. In noting the tremendous workload of the law reform Commission, the Committee wanted to know what its programme was, the kinds of law and subjects with which it dealt, its timetable, and the means it had at its disposal.

82. The Domestic Violence Bill came about as a result of the key findings of the Fiji law reform Commission's Family Law Report that highlighted the need for this review and overarching considerations that arise from the Constitution, Fiji's National Strategic Development Plan, and the work of the Taskforce on the Elimination of Violence against Women and Children and human rights obligations.

Within that context, the Centre could assist in (a) establishing a database on existing laws and regulations on firearms; (b) law reform and drafting of new legislation on firearms; (c) training courses for law enforcement officials involved in controlling illegal trafficking of arms, including detection; (d) tracing and investigation of illicit trafficking of firearms; and (e) development of public awareness programmes.
