49. On 25 June 2014, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution 26/2 on the question of the death penalty in which it strongly condemned the fact that the use of the death penalty lead to violations of the human rights of those facing the death penalty and of other affected persons.

17. In 2011, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution 13/13 on the protection of human rights defenders, in which it urged States to take timely and effective action to prevent and protect against attacks on and threats to human rights defenders.

On 27 September 2013, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution 24/34, in which it decided to appoint an independent expert to monitor the situation of human rights in the Central African Republic and make recommendations concerning technical assistance and capacity-building in the field of human rights.

45. On 25 March, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution 16/35, in which it expressed concern at the current human rights situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and urged the Government to redouble its efforts to expeditiously put an end to all violations of human rights and bring perpetrators to justice.

E. Human Rights Council 18. In June 2009, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution 11/1, entitled " Open-ended Working Group on an optional protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child to provide a communications procedure " .

In follow-up, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution 12/17 on the elimination of discrimination against women, in which it called upon States to fulfil their international obligations and commitments to revoke any remaining laws that discriminate on the basis of sex and to remove gender bias in the administration of justice.

14. On 1 October 2010, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution 15/26 in which it decided to establish an open-ended intergovernmental working group to consider the possibility of elaborating an international regulatory framework, including, inter alia, the option of elaborating a legally binding instrument, on the regulation, monitoring and oversight of the activities of private military and security companies, including their accountability.

49. In September 2014, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution 27/32 on human rights, sexual orientation and gender identity, in which it reiterated its grave concern at acts of violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and requested the High Commissioner to update the previous relevant report with a view to sharing good practices.

On 1 September, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution S-22/1, in which it condemned the violations and abuses of human rights law committed by ISIL and associated armed groups against civilians and requested the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to dispatch a mission to investigate those violations with a view to avoiding impunity and ensuring full accountability.

On 21 March 2013, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution 22/6, in which it called upon States to ensure that reporting requirements " do not inhibit functional autonomy [of associations] " and " do not discriminatorily impose restrictions on potential sources of funding. "

In 2013, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution 22/13, by which it established a commission of inquiry to investigate the systematic, widespread and grave violations of human rights in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, reinforcing the message sent by the General Assembly on 20 December 2012, when, for the first time, it adopted, without a vote, a resolution on the human rights situation in that country (resolution 67/181).
