22. Pursuant to article 310, States may, when signing, ratifying or acceding to the Convention, make declarations or statements, provided that such declarations or statements do not purport to exclude or to modify the legal effect of the provisions of UNCLOS in their application to that State.

56. By definition, a reservation has the purpose of modifying the legal effect of the provisions of a treaty in the relations between the parties; although it appears in an instrument other than the treaty, the reservation is therefore part of the corpus of the treaty and has a direct influence on the respective obligations of the parties.
56 - فالتحفظ بحكم تعريفه يهدف إلى تعديل الأثر القانوني لأحكام معاهدة في علاقاتها مع الأطراف؛ ورغم ورود التحفظ في صك مستقل عن المعاهدة، فإنه يساهم بالتالي في مجموعة النصوص الاتفاقية ويمارس تأثيرا مباشرا على التزامات كل طرف من الأطراف.

36. If, after expressing its consent to be bound, along with a reservation, a State or an international organization wishes to " enlarge " the reservation, in other words, to modify in its favour the legal effect of the provisions of the treaty to which the reservation refers, such provisions shall be fully applicable, for the same reasons:
36 - في حالة إعراب دولة أو منظمة دولية، وافقت على المعاهدة مع إبداء تحفظ، عن رغبتها في " التشدد " في هذا التحفظ، أي تعديل الأثر القانوني لأحكام المعاهدة موضوع التحفظ لصالحها، فإن هذه الأحكام تطبق بالكامل وللأسباب ذاتها:

1. A reservation established with regard to another party excludes or modifies for the reserving State or international organization in its relations with that other party the legal effect of the provisions of the treaty to which the reservation relates or of the treaty as a whole with respect to certain specific aspects, to the extent of the reservation.
1 - إن إنشاء التحفظ إزاء طرف آخر يستبعد أو يعدل بالنسبة إلى الدولة المتحفظة أو المنظمة الدولية المتحفظة، في علاقاتها مع ذلك الطرف الآخر، الأثر القانوني لأحكام المعاهدة التي يتعلق بها التحفظ أو الأثر القانوني للمعاهدة ككل فيما يتعلق ببعض الجوانب المحددة، وبحدود ذلك التحفظ.

A unilateral statement by which a State, when extending the application of a treaty to a territory, purports to exclude or to modify the legal effect of certain provisions of the treaty in relation to that territory constitutes a reservation.
يشكل تحفظا الإعلان الانفرادي الذي تستهدف منه الدولة، عند مد نطاق تطبيق معاهدة إلى إقليم، استبعاد أو تعديل الأثر القانوني لأحكام معينة من المعاهدة فيما يتعلق بهذا الإقليم.
