In his conclusions and recommendations, the Special Rapporteur underscores the importance of strong manifestations of political will and strict ethical standards not only for combating the influence of racist and xenophobic platforms on the political agendas of democratic parties, but also for ensuring that these parties cannot gain democratic legitimacy by joining government coalitions.

This politicization is an expression of one disturbing reason for the resilience and increase of racism and xenophobia: the existence of political parties with racist and xenophobic platforms that acquire a democratic legitimacy and the ability to implement these platforms as a result of electoral success and the infiltration of such platforms into the programmes of democratic parties.

In particular, the Special Rapporteur calls for a strengthened commitment of political leaders and intellectuals to strongly reject and condemn any expression of hate and xenophobia, particularly those of racist and xenophobic political platforms in the programmes of democratic parties and in the governmental alliances that enable the promoters of these platforms to implement their agendas with a clout of democratic legitimacy.

At the political level, the principal factor stems from the trivialization of racism and xenophobia through their political and electoral exploitation, which is reflected in the pervasiveness of racist and xenophobic platforms in the programmes of democratic parties and the governmental alliances that enable their extreme right or nationalist promoters to implement their agendas with a clout of democratic legitimacy.
فعلى المستوى السياسي، ينشأ العامل الرئيسي عن التقليل من خطورة العنصرية وكره الأجانب من خلال استغلالهما كأداة لأغراض سياسية وانتخابية، وهو ما ينعكس في الانتشار الواسع للطروحات العنصرية والمعادية للأجانب في برامج الأحزاب الديمقراطية والائتلافات الحكومية التي تمكِّن مروِّجيها من الجماعات اليمينية والقومية المتطرفة من تنفيذ مخططاتهم تحت ستار من الشرعية الديمقراطية.

This identity-related tension is politicized by far-right parties, intellectually and ideologically legitimized by influential circles of the intelligentsia and mass media and exploited for electoral purposes by Democratic Party leaders. It finds expression in a rejection of diversity and ethnic, cultural and religious pluralism and highlights the importance of the issue of racism and xenophobia in European societies.
