8. Operationalizing the UNCCD-CBD Joint Work Programme on the Biodiversity of dry and sub-humid lands.
8- تطبيق برنامج العمل المشترك بين اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة التصحر واتفاقية التنوع البيولوجي بشأن التنوع الحيوي في الأراضي الجافة وشبه الرطبة.

b. Develop indicators of the status and trends of the biological diversity of dry and sub-humid lands and indicators of effectiveness of practices for A 1.2.

14. The group reviewed the value and uses of the biodiversity of dry and sub-humid lands, focusing on global benefits and taking into account traditional knowledge.
14- واستعرض الفريق قيمة الأراضي الجافة وشبه الرطبة واستخداماتها، مع التركيز على المزايا العالمية، ومع مراعاة المعارف التقليدية.

The Conference of the Parties also reviewed the collaboration between the Convention on Biological Diversity and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, and expressed its appreciation to the secretariats for the work undertaken in developing their joint work programme on biological diversity in dry and sub-humid lands.

10. Pursuant to the decisions by the respective Conferences of the Parties to the UNCCD and CBD, initiatives on the joint work programme between the UNCCD and CBD on the biological diversity of dry and sub-humid lands have been progressing steadily.

19. In order to operationalisze the UNCCD-CBD Joint Work Programme on the biodiversity of dry and sub-humid lands, a joint UNCCD-CBD workshop will be organized.
19- سعياً إلى تنفيذ برنامج العمل المشترك بين اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة التصحر واتفاقية التنوع البيولوجي، بشأن التنوع البيولوجي في الأراضي الجافة وشبه الرطبة سوف تُنظّم حلقة عمل مشتركة بين الاتفاقيتين بخصوص هذا البرنامج.

During 2005 the two secretariats have collaborated on work programme elements relating to the status and trends of biodiversity in dry and sub-humid lands and the development of criteria and indicators for specific areas of value.

The CBD based on the Joint Programme of Work on the Biodiversity of dry and sub-humid lands would collaborate with the UNCCD and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change secretariatsS to hold in 2006 a regional synergy workshop in Asia or Latin America and the Caribbean in 2006 so as to implement the Pprogrammes of Wwork on Ddry and Ssub-Hhumid Llands and Aagricultural Bbiodiversity.
18- وستتعاون اتفاقية التنوع البيولوجي، استناداً إلى برنامج العمل المشترك المتعلق بالتنوع البيولوجي في الأراضي الجافة وشبه الرطبة مع أمانتي اتفاقية مكافحة التصحر واتفاقية الأمم المتحدة الإطارية بشأن تغير المناخ، لعقد ورشة عمل تآزرية إقليمية في آسيا أو أمريكا اللاتينية والكاريبي في عام 2006 من أجل تنفيذ برامج العمل المتعلقة بالأراضي الجافة وشبه الرطبة والتنوع البيولوجي الزراعي.

The topics dealt with at this workshop - particularly the contribution of traditional knowledge to understanding and managing climate-related risk, the implications of climate-related risks and impacts for sustainable development, and understanding the impacts of, and vulnerability to, climate change - are key activities of the UNCCD process, particularly in dry and sub-humid lands.
