The responsibilities of Member States have been set out in the relevant human rights and development instruments: the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, in particular, embodies the commitment of States Members of the United Nations to strengthen the international normative framework for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of development.

The Inter-Departmental Task Force on Accessibility in the United Nations Secretariat had been established by his own Department, the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management and OHCHR in order to make the United Nations more inclusive of persons with disabilities in all aspects of its work.
