The MERCOSUR States members and associated States therefore applauded the fact that the forthcoming Second Review Conference of the States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention would focus on the needs of victims, whose tragedy transcended the survivors' physical and psychological condition, and hindering the well-being, development and enjoyment of rights of the affected communities.

The organization participated in the eleventh meeting of States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention in Phnom Penh from 28 November to 2 December 2011.

By the Second Review Conference, a total of 62 States Parties to the AP Mine Ban Convention had become parties to the CRPD, including the following 10 of the 26 States Parties reporting responsibility for significant numbers of mine survivors: Croatia, El Salvador, Jordan, Nicaragua, Peru, Serbia, Sudan, Thailand, Uganda and Yemen.

1. One of the enhancements made during the May 2002 meetings of the Standing Committees established by the States Parties to the Convention banning anti-personnel mines was to increase the number of opportunities for participation by States parties.

Following the current presidencies, Lebanon will serve as President of the Second Meeting of States Parties to the Convention on Cluster Munitions in September 2011, and Cambodia will serve as President of the Eleventh Meeting of States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention in November 2011.

In May 2008, the CRPD entered into force: 119 States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention have signed the CRPD, including 17 of the 26 States Parties that have reported a responsibility for significant numbers of landmine survivors.

It was further highlighted that States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention make up a majority of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and therefore could help ensure that a sound link is made between these instruments once the UN Partnership to promote the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Multi-Donor Trust Fund becomes operational.
