In carrying out this activity, the Population Division has been collaborating with the United Nations Statistics Division in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the World Bank, both of which provided some of the data included in the database.

The document was discussed and reviewed by a group of experts convened by the United Nations Statistics Division and UNODC in Vienna in February 2013.

The existence of UNdata as a single data portal for many United Nations Statistical compilations has made it easier for users to identify instances of disparity or duplication in particular statistics and so should provide a greater incentive to resolve them.
