It gives me great pleasure to salute here Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the two new Members of the United Nations, the Swiss Confederation and the Democratic Republic of East Timor.

We call on Secretary-General Kofi Annan to redouble his tireless efforts to force Israel to desist from its aggressive policies in the occupied land and to push the peace process forward.

I also wish once again to extend our congratulations to Secretary-General Kofi Annan and to the United Nations on their joint awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize, which attests to the United Nations tireless endeavours to promote peace and security throughout the world.
