In that connection, the General Assembly, in paragraph 3 of resolution 63/74, requested the Secretary-General to provide from the regular budget, starting in the biennium 2010-2011, the necessary support to ensure the sustainability of the core activities and operations of the Regional Centre, in order to enable it to carry out its programme of activities in accordance with its mandate.

The increases are proposed pursuant to the request in General Assembly resolutions 63/74 and 63/77 for the necessary support to ensure the sustainability of the core activities and operations of the Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean and the Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific.

This proposal is in line with General Assembly resolutions 63/74 and 63/77, wherein the Secretary-General was asked to provide from the biennial regular budget, starting in 2010-2011, the necessary support to ensure the sustainability of the core activities and operations of the Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean and the Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific.

In this connection, the Secretary-General wishes to express his gratitude to the Member States for their support to ensure the sustainability of the core activities and operation of the Regional Centre and, in particular, to the Government of Nepal and those States that have already contributed financially and in kind to the Centre.
