The following testimonies have been selected to illustrate the various aspects of the phenomenon of military sexual slavery, leading the Special Rapporteur to believe that such military sexual slavery was conducted in a systematic and coercive manner by and with the knowledge of leaders of the Japanese Imperial Army.

The visits, and the high quality of discussions during both consultations with representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as interviews with women victims of military sexual slavery during wartime, allowed the Special Rapporteur to gain insight into the demands of the victims and the positions of the Governments concerned.

The Special Rapporteur would like to clarify at the outset of this report that she considers the case of women forced to render sexual services in wartime by and/or for the use of armed forces a practice of military sexual slavery.

٩٣- ورغبة من المقررة الخاصة باستكمال ما هو متوفر من مصادر تاريخية مدونة فقد قامت خلال زيارتيها لسيؤول وطوكيو بالاجتماع الى مؤرخين طلباً لمعلومات عن ظروف إنشاء مراكز الترفيه وعن ظروف النسوة اللواتي جندن ﻷغراض الاسترقاق الجنسي العسكري.

The Special Rapporteur had received ample information and documentation on the issue of military sexual slavery in the Asian region during the Second World War from governmental and non-governmental sources, including written testimonies of women victims, which were studied carefully before undertaking the fact-finding mission.
٥٤- وقد تلقت المقررة الخاصة معلومات ووثائق كثيرة عن مسألة الاسترقاق الجنسي العسكري في المنطقة اﻵسيوية خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية من مصادر حكومية وغير حكومية بما في ذلك إفادات مكتوبة من الضحايا، ودرستها بعناية قبل إيفاد بعثة لتقصي الحقائق.

(c) The identification and prosecution, under Japanese domestic law, of all perpetrators involved in the recruitment of military sexual slaves and the institutionalization of military sexual slavery.

In conclusion, the Special Rapporteur was able to conclude that all sectors of society in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea held a nearly unanimous view on how the issue of military sexual slavery should be settled and in that regard demands had been addressed to the Government of Japan.
٦٧ - وفي الختام، استطاعت المقررة الخاصة أن تستنتج بأن جميع قطاعات المجتمع في جمهورية كوريا الشعبية الديمقراطية متفقة بالاجماع تقريبا على الكيفية التي ينبغي بها معالجة قضية " الاسترقاق الجنسي العسكري " وقد وجﱢهت طلبات في هذا الصدد إلى حكومة اليابان.

In that context, the case of victims who had been forced into military sexual slavery during the Second World War, the so-called " comfort women " , was a key instance of an unresolved case of sexual violence in conflict.
وفي هذا السياق، فإن حالة الضحايا اللواتي زُج بهن بالقوة في الاسترقاق الجنسي العسكري أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية، واللواتي يُعرفن بـ " نساء المتعة " ، تمثِّل إحدى الأمثلة الرئيسية على قضية لم تجد حلاً من العنف الجنسي في حالات النزاع.
