The representative of the South Asia Cooperative Environment Programme introduced the proposal, stressing the importance of such a centre for the South Asia region in the light of the region's booming economies and rapidly growing shipping activity.

The Working Group had before it a note by the Secretariat on the progress to date (UNEP/CHW/OEWG/6/4) and the executive summary of the South Asia Cooperative Environment Programme's proposal (UNEP/CHW/OEWG/6/INF/24).
وكان معروضاً عليه مذكرة من الأمانة عن التقدّم المحرز حتى الآن (UNEP/CHW/OEWG/6/4) والموجز التنفيذي لمقترح البرنامج البيئي التعاوني لجنوب آسيا (UNEP/CHW/OEWG/6/INF/24).

The representative of the Secretariat said that by decision VIII/3, the Conference of the Parties had mandated the Working Group to consider, on the basis of a feasibility study, a proposal for the establishment of a regional centre for South Asia at the secretariat of the South Asia Cooperative Environment Programme in Colombo.
وقال ممثل الأمانة إنّ مؤتمر الأطراف أسند، بموجب المقرر 8/3، ولاية للفريق العامل لكي ينظر، على أساس دراسة جدوى، في مقترح لإنشاء مركز إقليمي لجنوب آسيا داخل أمانة البرنامج البيئي التعاوني لجنوب آسيا في كولومبو.
