At the request of the Special Rapporteur, the Habitat International Coalition convened a meeting of international experts in New Delhi in November 2001 to examine selected case studies and to propose a research methodology for cataloguing the characteristics of existing alternative urban management practices in different cities around the world and testing their effectiveness in protecting, promoting and fulfilling the right to adequate housing.
