Replying to the point raised by the representative of Argentina, he said that if a State party to the Convention made no decision at all in accordance with article 287, it would be bound in the event of a dispute relating to the law of the sea to have recourse to arbitration in accordance with Annex VII. In that case arbitration was a compulsory procedure which could be instituted by the other party to the dispute.
وردا على نقطة أثارتها ممثلة الأرجنتين، قال إنه في حال عدم اتخاذ دولة عضو في الاتفاقية أي قرار على الإطلاق وفقا للمادة 287، تكون ملزمة إذا وقع نزاع متعلق بقانون البحار باللجوء إلى التحكيم وفقا للمرفق السابع. وفي تلك الحالة يكون التحكيم إجراء إلزاميا يمكن للطرف الآخر في النزاع المبادرة إليه.

The negotiations between the parties made no mention of arbitration, except for a defendant's document which referred to their standard terms and conditions, including arbitration according to the laws of Hong Kong.
