The discussions were concentrated in particular on paragraph 2, which requests the Secretary-General to prepare a report, with the support of qualified consultants and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research, on areas where consensus can be reached, and to submit a report to the General Assembly at its sixty-first session.

In its decision 1994/225 of 14 July 1994, the Economic and Social Council took note of the report of the Committee for Development Planning 1/ and decided to transmit the recommendations contained in chapter V, section B, of the report to the General Assembly at its forty-ninth session for approval.
