This report deals with KM activities from a system-wide perspective and complements the previous review undertaken by OIOS on the thematic evaluation of KM networks in the pursuit of the goals of the Millennium Declaration.

A 2006 report of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) on the thematic evaluation of knowledge management networks in pursuit of the goals of the Millennium Declaration (E/AC.51/2006/2), called for a knowledge management strategy to be developed for the Secretariat, and asked that a unit focusing on knowledge management be designated (see also E/AC.51/2009/4).

1. At its forty-sixth session, in 2006, the Committee for Programme and Coordination considered the report of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) on the thematic evaluation of knowledge management networks in pursuit of the goals of the Millennium Declaration (E/AC.51/2006/2).

A recommendation for the establishment of a United Nations system-wide knowledge management strategy was also made in the OIOS report on the thematic evaluation of knowledge management networks in pursuit of the goals of the Millennium Declaration (E/AC.51/2006/2) and OIOS continues to track its progress.
وقُدِّمت أيضا في تقرير المكتب عن التقييم المواضيعي لشبكات إدارة المعارف توصية لوضع استراتيجية لإدارة المعارف على نطاق منظومة الأمم المتحدة وذلك بهدف تنفيذ أهداف إعلان الألفية (E/AC.51/2006/2)، ولا يزال المكتب يتتبع تقدمها.

While many agencies indicated that they had already begun to implement components of the recommendation, others called for a more broad-based approach that would more fully address the obstacles that were identified by both the Office of Internal Oversight Services in its report on the thematic evaluation of knowledge management networks in the pursuit of the goals of the Millennium Declaration and the present report.

371. At its 2nd meeting, on 14 August 2006, the Committee considered the report of OIOS on the thematic evaluation of knowledge management networks in the pursuit of the goals of the Millennium Declaration (E/AC.51/2006/2).
