In this regard, international cooperation has a vital role in assisting developing countries as well as some countries with economies in transition in the strengthening of their human, institutional and technological capacity.

The subprogramme also provides assistance to interested Governments of developing countries and countries with economies in transition in strengthening their institutional, human resources, policy-analysis and policy-making infrastructure, particularly with regard to the implementation of relevant commitments agreed upon at major United Nations conferences.

Urges donor countries and organizations and the international and regional statistical community to support developing countries and countries with economies in transition in strengthening statistical capacity in support of development; they should largely build upon existing national, regional and international initiatives in a coordinated manner and encourage other initiatives to address significant gaps that might emerge;
