34. The Tenth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders had developed a common strategy to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century.
34 - ومضى يقول إن مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة العاشر لمنع الجريمة ومعاملة المجرمين قد وضع استراتيجية مشتركة لمواجهة تحديات القرن الحادي والعشرين.

Reference was made to the United Nations project on firearms regulation and to the fact that the African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders had initiated a project on firearms that focused on illegal trafficking in firearms in the region with a view to developing regional strategies of control.
وأشير أيضا الى مشاريع اﻷمم المتحدة المعنية بضبط تداول اﻷسلحة النارية ، والى أن المعهد اﻷفريقي لمنع الجريمة ومعاملة المجرمين قد بادر الى القيام بمشروع بشأن اﻷسلحة النارية يركز على الاتجار غير القانوني باﻷسلحة النارية في المنطقة ، بغية وضع استراتيجيات مراقبة واقليمية في هذا الصدد .

The Ninth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders had drawn attention to the fact that judicial systems were being overwhelmed by the rising tide of criminality brought on by poverty, unemployment, exploding populations and a seriously depleted environment.
٦١ - وأضافت قائلة إن مؤتمر اﻷمم المتحدة التاسع لمنع الجريمة ومعاملة المجرمين قد لفت النظر الى أن اﻷجهزة القضائية قد غرقت في مد الجريمة المرتفع المدفوع بالفقر والبطالة والانفجار السكاني والبيئة المنهكة بشكل خطير.

The African Regional Preparatory Meeting for the Ninth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders had adopted the " Declaration on the African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders " (see A/CONF.169/RPM.2).
وكان الاجتماع الاقليمي الافريقي التحضيري للمؤتمر التاسع لمنع الجريمة ومعاملة المجرمين قد اعتمد " اعلانا بشأن المعهد الافريقي لمنع الجريمة ومعاملة المجرمين " )انظر A/CONF.169/RPM.2(.

As at 28 February 2003, seven countries (Azerbaijan, Finland, Mexico, Oman, Republic of Korea, Ukraine and United States) and three institutes of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme network replied (UNICRI, the Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders and the African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders) had replied.
وفي تاريخ 28 شباط/فبراير 2003، كانت سبعة بلدان (هي أذربيجان وفنلندا والمكسيك وعمان وجمهورية كوريا وأوكرانيا والولايات المتحدة)، وثلاثة من المعاهد المنتمية إلى شبكة برنامج الأمم المتحدة لمنع الجريمة والعدالة الجنائية (هي اليونيكري ومعهد الأمم المتحدة لمنع الجريمة ومعاملة المجرمين في آسيا والشرق الأقصى والمعهد الإقليمي الافريقي لمنع الجريمة ومعاملة المجرمين) قد بعثت بردودها.
