1. The present note provides information on the submission of the final report of the Secretary-General on the study on violence against children at the sixty-first session of the General Assembly and follow-up events that have taken place in 2006.
1- تقدم هذه المذكرة معلومات عن تقديم التقرير النهائي للأمين العام بشأن الدراسة المتعلقة بالعنف ضد الأطفال في الدورة الحادية والستين للجمعية العامة واجتماعات المتابعة التي عُقدت منذ عام 2006.

Noting the progress made by the independent expert in preparing the study on violence against children, requested by the General Assembly in its resolution 57/190 of 18 December 2002, which will pay particular attention to the situation of girls, and the contribution of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to that study,
وإذ يحيط علما بالتقدّم الذي أحرزه الخبير المستقل في إعداد الدراسة المتعلقة بالعنف ضد الأطفال التي طلبت الجمعية العامة إعدادها بمقتضى قرارها 57/190 المؤرخ 18 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2002 والتي ستولي عناية خاصة لوضع الفتيات، وبمساهمة مكتب الأمم المتحدة المعني بالمخدرات والجريمة في تلك الدراسة،

Since the release, in 2006, of the study on violence against children,14 countries such as Swaziland and the United Republic of Tanzania have also completed prevalence studies of violence against children, some focusing specifically on violence against girls.
ومنذ أن نُشرت في عام 2006 الدراسة المتعلقة بالعنف ضد الأطفال(14)، أنجزت بلدان مثل جمهورية تنـزانيا المتحدة وسوازيلند دراسات لانتشار العنف ضد الأطفال أيضاً، ركز بعضها بوجه خاص على العنف ضد الفتاة.

His Government fully supported the work of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children and endorsed the need to allocate the necessary resources for her activities; it had hosted the Central America meeting on the follow-up to the study on violence against children in December 2011.

The UNICEF strategy for the protection of children covered all the recommendations contained in the study on violence against children (A/62/209), and UNICEF would work in close cooperation with the new Special Representative, as it was already doing with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and would provide it with all the necessary support.

14. Mr. Grey-Johnson (Gambia) said that his delegation found the launch of the study on violence against children (A/61/299) to be timely in refocusing the world's attention on the issue and in generating momentum for serious policy discussions.
