In addition to the 53 States members of the Commission, almost all the remaining Members of the United Nations now attend meetings of the Commission as observers.
وبالإضافة إلى الدول أعضاء اللجنة التي يبلغ عددها 53 دولة، فإن بقية الدول الأعضاء في الأمم المتحدة تحضر جميعها تقريبا اجتماعات اللجنة بصفة مراقب.

Invitations have been sent to Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) member States in the region and to international organizations, and the business sector and civil society are also expected to participate.

In presenting to the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization certain ideas that it feels would be of assistance in achieving this objective, it is aware that countries that are members of the Committee and other States have other views and ideas and that discussion in the Committee will be an important factor in enhancing and developing these ideas.

It will promote measures and policies to increase competitiveness and productivity in ESCWA member States in the areas of industry, technology, transport and agriculture and to improve regional cooperation through the promotion of harmonization of standards, the adoption of legal instruments and the strengthening of the capabilities of countries of the region in sectoral policy formulation.
وهو سيعزز التدابير والسياسات الرامية إلى زيادة القدرة على المنافسة واﻹنتاجية في الدول أعضاء اللجنة في ميادين الصناعة والتكنولوجيا والنقل والزراعة وتحسين التعاون اﻹقليمي عن طريق تشجيع مواءمة القواعد، واعتماد الصكوك القانونية، وتعزيز قدرات بلدان المنطقة على وضع السياسات القطاعية.

Cooperation with UNCTAD also involved launching an extensive joint activity on the promotion of FDI in the region through a project on networking of expertise on FDI in ESCWA member States.
وشمل التعاون مع الأونكتاد أيضا بداية نشاط مشترك على نطاق واسع في مجال تشجيع الاستثمار الأجنبي المباشر بالمنطقة من خلال الاضطلاع بمشروع لربط الخبرات الفنية المتعلقة بهذا الاستثمار في الدول أعضاء اللجنة عن طريق شبكة من الحواسيب.

On a smaller scale, technical cooperation for developing countries on wind energy enabled States members of the Commission to share experience, equipment and training in this field.

It was noted with appreciation that upon completion of a comprehensive review of ECLAC's programme of work and operations, undertaken by the member States of the Commission in the light of General Assembly resolution 57/300 and the Millennium Declaration, the Commission had reoriented its work programme to focus on three priority areas and found 37 outputs of marginal utility, especially in the area of technical cooperation.

3. The decision, inter alia, recommitted the renewed support of ECE member States to the work of ECE and confirmed that ECE facilitates greater economic integration and cooperation among its 56 member States and promotes sustainable development.
