1. This is the last of three reports by the Special Rapporteur on the transition to democracy in South Africa.

3. Considers that the mandate of the Special Rapporteur to monitor the transition to democracy in South Africa has been successfully concluded, and decides to terminate it as at the date of adoption of the present resolution;

72. Upon the recommendation of the Commission, in its resolution 1993/19, the Economic and Social Council, in its resolution 1993/45, authorized the Subcommission to entrust Ms. Judith Sefi Attah with the task of presenting annually a report on the transition to democracy in South Africa, including:
٢٧- وبناء على توصية من لجنة حقوق الانسان في قرارها ٣٩٩١/٩١، أذن المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي للجنة الفرعية، في قراره ٣٩٩١/٥٤، بأن تسند الى السيدة جوديث سيفي آتاه مهمة تقديم تقرير سنوي عن الانتقال الى الديمقراطية في جنوب أفريقيا بما في ذلك:

Whereas the South African democracy is relatively young, the heroic struggle by South Africans for democracy, social justice and human rights and fundamental freedoms is very old and extends over a period of 350 years.
وفي حين أن الديمقراطية في جنوب أفريقيا حديثـة العهد نسبيـا، فـإن الكفاح البطولي الذي خاضـه مواطنو جنوب أفريقيا من أجل الديمقراطية والعدالة الاجتماعية وحقوق الإنسان والحريات الأساسية كفاح قديم العهـد تمتد جذوره إلى ما يزيد على 350 سنــة.
