الخيار 1: الهدف من هذه الاتفاقية هو حماية صحة الإنسان والبيئة من انبعاثات الزئبق ومركّباته البشرية المنشأ [بالإقلال إلى أدنى حد من انبعاثات الزئبق البشرية المنشأ العالمية في الهواء والماء واليابسة، وبالقضاء على تلك الانبعاثات في نهاية المطاف، حيثما أمكن].

This category has traditionally included the use of mercury and mercury compounds in such diverse applications as pesticides, fungicides, laboratory chemicals, in pharmaceuticals, as a preservative in paints, traditional medicine, cultural and ritual uses, cosmetics, etc.

The overarching framework establishes an overall goal for the UNEP Global Mercury Partnership: to protect human health and the global environment from the release of Mercury and its Compounds by minimizing and, where feasible, ultimately eliminating, global anthropogenic mercury releases to air, water and land.
7 - ويحدد الإطار الجامع هدفاً عاماً للشراكة العالمية الخاصة بالزئبق لدى اليونيب، وهو حماية الصحة البشرية والبيئة العالمية من انبعاثات الزئبق ومركّباته وذلك بتخفيض انبعاثات الزئبق العالمية الناجمة عن الاستعمال البشري في الهواء والماء والأرض إلى الحد الأدنى، وحيثما أمكن، إزالتها نهائياً.
