Mr. President, I am confident that, as the president with the longest tenure, you will conduct useful consultations, along with the distinguished Ambassador of India, Ambassador Rakesh Sood, during the intersessional period in order to enable us to commence next year's session with a smooth agreement on a programme of work.

At the Review Conference, it was also decided that follow-up work should be commissioned, under the oversight of a Chairman-Designate, Ambassador Rakesh Sood of India, in the form of a meeting of States parties to the Convention to be held at Geneva on 12 and 13 December 2002.

20. In accordance with the decisions taken at the Meeting of the States Parties to the Convention in 2002 (CCW/MSP/2002/2) one meeting was devoted to the consideration of options to promote compliance with the Convention, under the chairmanship of Ambassador Rakesh Sood.

Ambassador Rakesh Sood of India chaired the Group of Governmental Experts established pursuant to resolution 56/24 V, which recommended a decision to negotiate under the aegis of the United Nations an international instrument to enable States to identify and trace in a timely manner small arms and light weapons.
وقد ترأس السفير راكيش سود، ممثل الهند، فريق الخبراء الحكوميين المنشأ عملاً بالقرار 56/24 تاء، الذي أوصى بالتفاوض برعاية الأمم المتحدة على اتخاذ مقرر بوضع صك دولي لتمكين الدول من تحديد الأسلحة الصغيرة والأسلحة الخفيفة وتعقبها في الوقت المناسب.

22- وعرض رئيس اجتماع الدول الأطراف، السفير راكيش سود من الهند، تقرير فريق الخبراء الحكوميين عن دورته السادسة (CCW/GGE/VI/2) على اجتماع الدول الأطراف للنظر فيه، وهو مرفق بهذا التقرير بوصفه المرفق الخامس.

The delegation of India, in addition to its initiative in submitting the draft resolution as another pioneering act, demonstrated intellectual and political flexibility in understanding Member States' concerns about the draft. It tried its best to arrive at an acceptable formula taking into account the varied concerns and interests of States, which we adopted today. We thank the delegation of India and Ambassador Rakesh Sood for their efforts.
