During his presidency of the Conference on Disarmament, at the beginning of the 1999 session, Ambassador Grey contributed significantly to our joint endeavour to reach consensus on a comprehensive and balanced programme of work and also prepared the ground for admission of the five new members of the Conference, one of them being my own country.
وقد أسهم السفير غراي في أثناء ترؤسه لمؤتمر نزع السلاح، في بداية دورة عام 1999، إسهاما بارزاً في مساعينا المشتركة للتوصل إلى توافق الآراء بشأن برنامج عمل شامل ومتوازن، كما مهد الطريق لانضمام الأعضاء الجدد الخمسة إلى المؤتمر، وكانت بلادي أحدهم.

These include draft decisions by Ambassador Grey of the United States (CD/1566) and Ambassador Cedeño of Venezuela (CD/1575) the proposal for a programme of work put forward by the Group of 21 (CD/1570), and that put forward by the United States, the United Kingdom and France (CD/1586).

The need to reappoint this negotiating committee was noted by the earlier Presidents of the Conference, Ambassador Grey of the United States and Ambassador Rodríguez Cedeño of Venezuela, in draft decisions CD/1566 and CD/1575; by the countries in the G21 in their draft CD/1570; and by the United States, France and the United Kingdom in their document CD/1586.
