According to resolutions 61/88, of 18 December 2006, and 63/63, of 12 January 2009, the purpose of the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia is to facilitate the strengthening of regional and global peace and security, to help fight international terrorism and to prevent nuclear material and technologies from falling into the hands of criminals.
