As tensions rise because of the malicious actions being executed by the Ethiopian Government and its army against the people of Eritrea, it is only natural that the patience and tolerance of the Eritrean people at large is being tried.

the Eritrean people have not forgotten when Eritrea was unjustly and irresponsibly federated with Ethiopia in 1952, under a General Assembly resolution, due to geopolitical interests of certain powerful nations and against its wishes and aspirations for independence like any other African State that was under European colonization.

Given the gravity of the matter and its serious implications for the Eritrean people and for regional peace and security, I wish to inform you that Isaias Afwerki, President of the State of Eritrea, is requesting to address the Security Council at the earliest mutually convenient time.

49. Lastly, his delegation wished to extend its thanks to the countries, agencies and organizations of the United Nations system and non-governmental organizations which were assisting the Eritrean people and had had the integrity to expose the atrocities committed by Ethiopia.

268. Regarding the issue of same-sex activity between consenting adults, the delegation indicated that these recommendations were in direct conflict with the values and traditions of the Eritrean people and did not, therefore, enjoy the support of the Government.

The silence of the United Nations on the abrogation of the federal system in 1962 in violation of General Assembly resolution 390 (V) of 2 December 1950, under the pressure of certain Powers, that led to the 30 years of suffering of the Eritrean people until the country was liberated in 1991 is also still vivid in the minds of the Eritreans.
كما أن الصمت الذي لاذت به الأمم المتحدة إزاء إبطال النظام الاتحادي في عام 1962، في انتهاكٍ لقرار الجمعية العامة 390 (د-5) الصادر في 2 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 1950، بضغط من قوى معينة والذي أودى إلى السنوات الثلاثين من العذاب التي ذاق مرَّها الشعب الإريتري حتى تحرير بلادهم عام 1991، لا يزال ماثلا في أذهان الإريتريين.
