In June 2010, the Special Rapporteur visited Guatemala to discuss the implementation of the principles of consultation with indigenous peoples in the country, particularly in relation to extractive industries, with a special focus on the situation of indigenous peoples affected by the Marlin mine in the municipalities of Sipacapa and San Miguel Ixtuhuacán.

32. Participants referred to existing evidence that indigenous peoples affected by HIV have a long and enduring history of mistrust of health services, which results in poor access to health care, late testing for HIV and poor or no care and support for people living with HIV.
