Since 1993, Chile has had an indigenous act broadly based on International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 169 concerning Indigenous and Tribal Peoples in Independent Countries.

In this connection, it should be highlighted that in 2001, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security expanded its internal unit in charge of monitoring the application of ILO Convention No. 169 concerning Indigenous and Tribal Peoples in Independent Countries.
