The tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity requested the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice to take into account, in the implementation of the programmes of work on protected areas and on marine and coastal biodiversity, the impact of ocean noise on marine protected areas.

The General Assembly recently encouraged further studies and consideration of the impacts of ocean noise on marine living resources, and requested the Division to compile peer-reviewed scientific studies it receives from Member States and make them available on its website (see resolution 61/222, para. 107).

By decision X/13, the Conference of the Parties also requested the Subsidiary Body to consider the impacts of ocean acidification on marine biodiversity and habitats and to take into account, in the implementation of the programmes of work on protected areas and on marine and coastal biodiversity, the impact of ocean noise on marine protected areas (see also sect. IV.C.6 below).

137 At the sixth meeting of the United Nations Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea, a group of non-governmental organizations held a side event to express concern about the effects of ocean noise on fish and marine mammals. Their " Position statement on ocean noise " contains references to a number of scientific articles and to activities of the sponsoring organizations.
