1. In resolutions 52/80 and 53/109, the General Assembly requested States to participate, at an appropriate global policy-making level, in the four plenary meetings which it had decided should be devoted at its fifty-fourth session to the follow-up to the International Year of Older Persons.
أولا - مقدمة ١ - طلبت الجمعية العامة إلى الدول في القرارين ٥٢/٨٠ و ٥٣/١٠٩، أن تشارك على مستوى عالمي ملائم لتقرير السياسات في الجلسات العامة اﻷربع التي قررت أن تكرسها في أثناء دورتها الرابعة والخمسين لمتابعة السنة الدولية لكبار السن.

19. Requests States to participate, at an appropriate global policy-making level, in the four plenary meetings which, in resolution 52/80 of 12 December 1997, it decided to devote at its fifty-fourth session to the Year and its follow-up;
١٩ - تطلب إلى الدول أن تشارك، على مستوى عالمي ملائم لتقرير السياسة، في الجلسات العامة اﻷربع التي قررت، في قرارها ٥٢/٨٠ المؤرخ ١٢ كانون اﻷول/ ديسمبر ١٩٩٧، أن تكرسها أثناء دورتها الرابعة والخمسين للسنة الدولية ولمتابعتها؛

3. The present note includes suggestions for the development of a long-term perspective strategy on ageing into the twenty-first century; streamlining the review and appraisal of the International Plan of Action on Ageing; and the four plenary meetings of the General Assembly at its fifty-fourth session to be devoted to follow-up to the International Year of Older Persons.
٣ - وتضم هذه المذكرة اقتراحات لوضع استراتيجية منظورية طويلة اﻷجل بشأن الشيخوخة في القرن الحادي والعشرين؛ وتبسيط استعراض وتقييم خطة العمل الدولية للشيخوخة؛ والجلسات العامة اﻷربع للجمعية العامة في دورتها الرابعة والخمسين المكرسة لمتابعة السنة الدولية لكبار السن.

The General Committee decided to recommend to the General Assembly that, in the light of resolution 52/80 of 12 December 1997, the four plenary meetings devoted to the follow-up to the International Year of Older Persons be held on Monday and Tuesday, 4 and 5 October 1999.
قرر المكتب أن يوصي الجمعية العامة بأن تعقد الجلسات العامة اﻷربع المخصصة لمتابعة السنة الدولية للمسنين يومي الاثنين والثلاثاء، ٤ و ٥ تشرين اﻷول/أكتوبر ١٩٩٩، وذلك في ضوء القرار ٥٢/٨٠ المؤرخ ١٢ كانون اﻷول/ ديسمبر ١٩٩٧.

2. The four plenary meetings being devoted to the Year and its follow-up are scheduled for 4 and 5 October, shortly after the International Day of Older Persons (1 October).
٢ - وقد تقرر عقد الجلسات العامة اﻷربع المكرسة للسنة ومتابعتها يومي ٤ و ٥ تشرين اﻷول/أكتوبر، أي عقب الاحتفال باليوم الدولي لكبار السن )١ تشرين اﻷول/أكتوبر( بوقت قصير.
