The Ministry of Justice of Serbia informed OHCHR that after internal inquiries by the Ministry of the Interior, 14 policemen had been dismissed from service during 1996 or had other disciplinary measures taken against them, mostly for resorting to excessive use of force.
وقامت وزارة العدل في صربيا بإبلاغ المفوض السامي لحقوق اﻹنسان بأنه، إثر تحريات داخلية أجرتها وزارة الداخلية، تم تسريح ٤١ من رجال الشرطة من الخدمة أثناء عام ٦٩٩١ أو اتُخذت بحقهم تدابير تأديبية أخرى، وذلك غالبا بسبب لجوئهم إلى استخدام القوة بإفراط.

The Deputy Minister of Justice of Serbia said that only in a small number of cases do the victims of torture file complaints and that an even smaller number end up in convictions. Furthermore, the sentences given by the judges are generally very light, and are sometimes even conditional sentences.

161. The Special Rapporteur is disturbed that she has received no response to any of her letters, with the exception of a detailed reply from the Minister of Justice of Serbia about medical treatment provided to Mr. Bulatovic to help him recover from beatings he had sustained.

19. The Ministry of Justice of Serbia informed the Belgrade office of OHCHR that the new draft Code of Criminal Procedure provides for prompt access to a lawyer in line with FRY constitutional requirements.

It is also concerned by the legal uncertainty created by the existence of a parallel court system administered by the Ministry of Justice of Serbia, in certain parts of Kosovo (arts. 2 and 4).

41. A training centre within the Ministry of Justice of Serbia conducts regular human rights training programmes for security service employees and judicial wardens and has expanded to training trainers and heads of penal institutions and departments.

On 4 September, it forwarded to EULEX 102 such requests that had been received since February from the Ministry of Justice of Serbia and had not been processed owing to the position of the Ministry of Justice of Kosovo not to acknowledge or act on requests communicated through UNMIK.
