1. The Government of Jordan has amended the Jordanian Penal Code in order to increase the penalties against crimes of a terrorist nature.

74. In response to this recommendation, article 208 of the Jordanian Criminal Code was amended to include a definition of the offence of torture.

91. There are many articles of Jordan's Penal Code that are aimed at the protection of children. A partial list will be found below. It should be noted that heavier penalties are prescribed in cases where the victim is a child:
91- نص قانون العقوبات الأردني على مواد عديدة لحماية الطفل في المجالات المحددة أدناه، مع تشديد العقوبات في الحالات التي يكون فيها المعتدى عليه طفلاً:

She has also been informed that the Jordanian Penal Code includes several articles providing for reduced penalties for men who kill their wives or female relatives because of adulterous relationships.
وأُبلِغت أيضا بأن قانون العقوبات الأردني يتضمن عدة مواد تنص على عقوبات مخففة بالنسبة للرجال الذين يقومون بقتل زوجاتهم أو قريباتهم بسبب الزنى.

Criminalization of domestic violence or prosecuting its perpetrators does not fall within the field of this law. The question of criminalization is left to the Jordanian Penal Code to address.
ويخرج عن نطاق اختصاص هذا القانون تجريم أفعال العنف الأسري أو ملاحقة مرتكبيها ويترك أمر التجريم إلى قانون العقوبات الأردني.

97. The Jordanian Penal Code of 1960 addresses various aspects of the issue of prostitution:
97- وتناول قانون العقوبات الأردني لسنة 1960 موضوع الدعارة من حيث:

Under the Jordanian Penal Code, to compel a girl under 15 years of age to marry or to aid and abet the forced marriage of a girl under 18 years of age without the consent of her legal guardian is a criminal offence.
كما يحدد قانون العقوبات الأردني عقوبة من يفرض الزواج على من هي دون الخامسة عشر أو ساعد في تزويج فتاة لم تتم الثامنة عشرة من عمرها دون أن يتحقق من موافقة ولي أمرها.

26. The Jordanian Criminal Code unambiguously imposes strict penalties on persons who falsify any officially written entry or document.
26- ويفرض قانون العقوبات الأردني بصريح العبارة عقوبات صارمة على كل من يزوّر أي قيد كتابي رسمي أو وثيقة رسمية.

The Jordanian Criminal Code defines torture as an offence which is punishable by law, pursuant to article 208 of the Criminal Code and article 49 of the Military Criminal Code.
ثالثاً- اعتبر قانون العقوبات الأردني التعذيب جريمة يُعاقب عليها القانون، وفقاً للمادة 208 من قانون العقوبات وكذلك المادة 49 من قانون العقوبات العسكري.

1. According to paragraph 16 of the State party report, article 208 of the Jordanian Criminal Code has been amended to classify the practice of torture as a specific criminal offence in conformity with the Convention against Torture.
1- جاء في الفقرة 16 من تقرير الدولة الطرف أن المادة 208 من قانون العقوبات الأردني قد عدلت بهدف تصنيف ممارسة التعذيب كفعل إجرامي وفقاً لاتفاقية مناهضة التعذيب.

121. Moreover, article 208 of the Jordanian Criminal Code criminalizes torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment and punishment.
121- كما تجرم المادة (208) من قانون العقوبات الأردني التعذيب أو المعاملة أو العقوبة القاسية أو اللاإنسانية أو المهينة.

Jordan's Penal Code includes provisions aimed at protecting children from abuse and exploitation, as noted in the first periodic report to the Committee. Those provisions are contained in articles 285, 287-292, 293.2, 294.2, 295-298, 279.2, 334.1, 328.2, 330-336, 43, 302, 304-306, 310, 314 and 389.
يتضمن قانون العقوبات الأردني نصوصاً لحماية الطفل من إساءة المعاملة والاستغلال وردت في التقرير السابق، وهي المواد ذوات الأرقام التالية: (285، 287-292، 293/2، 294/2، 295-298، 279/2، 334/1، 328/2، 330-336، 43، 302، 304-306، 310، 314، 389).
