(a) Urged donor countries to increase the proportion of their ODA contribution supporting programmes for management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests, especially in developing countries where private investment has remained low, and also urged recipient countries to give greater priority to forests and forest-related national resources development strategies when programming the ODA available to them;

The present report aims to summarize the current status of activities under the REDD-plus mechanism (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks) and their possible impact on the rights and livelihoods of indigenous peoples.

It is estimated that the overall work of the Consultative Group on International Agriculture Research has resulted in the development of more environmentally friendly technologies that have saved millions of hectares of land from cultivation worldwide, thus contributing to the management and conservation of natural resources, including forests and the biodiversity they contain.7
