The present report is submitted in compliance with General Assembly resolution 56/106 of 14 December 2001, in which the Assembly requested the Secretary-General to take all necessary measures for the implementation of that resolution and to report thereon to the Assembly at its fifty-seventh session.

The General Assembly called upon the Secretary-General to continue to mobilize international humanitarian, rehabilitation and reconstruction assistance for Somalia, to apprise the Economic and Social Council at its substantive session of 1995 of the progress made in the implementation of the resolution and to report thereon to the Assembly at its fiftieth session.

Mr. Fitschen (Germany), explaining his delegation's position, said that in General Assembly resolution 61/39 the General Assembly had requested the Secretary-General to seek the views of Member States on matters pertaining to the issues addressed in that resolution and to submit a report thereon at its sixty-second session.
