In 2011, international cooperation led Romania and Slovakia, along with five other States parties to the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians, to sign the Protocol on Sustainable Tourism.

32. In May 2011 the third meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians (Carpathian Convention) was successfully held in Bratislava.

It is interesting to note that three regional entities -- the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians (Carpathian Convention), the Central African Forests Commission and the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe (Forest Europe) -- are considering or have recently developed a legally binding instrument on forests.
