(24) The Committee is concerned that the construction and operation of the Gilgel Gibe III hydroelectric dam will have a significant negative impact on the traditional practices and means of subsistence of indigenous peoples who rely on the Omo River, potentially endangering local food security (art. 11).

32. The Boruca hydroelectric project in southern Costa Rica, to become operational in 2012, is expected to flood an area of around 250 square kilometres which would directly or indirectly affect seven indigenous territories and some non-indigenous areas as well.
