In November 1997, Haitian women's associations mobilized as a result of the lack of government action to bring to justice the perpetrators of political rape and to implement the recommendations of the Truth and Justice Commission, and held an International Tribunal against Violence against women in Haiti.
64- ونتيجة لعدم اتخاذ الحكومة لأي إجراء، بدأت الجمعيات النسائية الهايتية، في شهر تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 1997 تحشد جهودها لتقديم مرتكبي أفعال الاغتصاب إلى العدالة ولإعمال توصيات لجنة الحقيقة والعدل، كذلك عقدت محكمة دولية لمكافحة العنف ضد المرأة في هايتي.

While noting the acknowledgement of the State party of " the acute nature of the problem of violence against women in Haiti " , the Committee is concerned that up to now there is no specific legislation criminalizing violence against women, including domestic violence, although it notes the State party's plan to draft such a law in the course of the year 2009.

The Committee expresses its appreciation to the State party for its combined initial, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh periodic reports, which followed the Committee's guidelines for the preparation of reports and provided a comprehensive picture of the situation of women in Haiti and concrete information on the implementation of the Convention, while regretting that the reports had been overdue since 1982.

33. Ms. Lassegue (Haiti) said that women in Haiti were still largely heads of households, many raising children alone, and absent from public life, with very little result thus far from efforts to remove the obstacles they faced in taking their rightful place in political life.
33 - السيدة لاسيغيو (هايتي): قالت إن المرأة في هايتي لا تزال إلى حد كبير رئيسة الأُسرة المعيشية، وكثير من النساء يقمن بتنشئة أطفالهن بمفردهن، وهن بعيدات عن الحياة العامة، حيث لم تفلح الجهود المبذولة حتى الآن كثيراً في إزالة ما يواجهن من عقبات لأخذ مكانهن الملائم في الحياة السياسية.

The Ministry had implemented legal and practical measures to improve the status of Haitian women, giving them access to education, participation in public life, social, economic and legal safeguards and protection from all forms of discrimination, and thereby helping them to escape from poverty and violence.
وأضافت أن الوزارة نفَّذت تدابير قانونية وعملية لتحسين وضع المرأة في هايتي وتوفير الفرص لها في مجال التعليم والمشاركة في الحياة العامة كما وفّرت لها الحماية الاقتصادية والقانونية والحماية من جميع أشكال التمييز مما ساعدها على الخروج من دائرة الفقر والعنف.

In bringing its legislation into line with the international conventions signed and ratified by Haiti, the Government was demonstrating its genuine political commitment to restoring the rights of Haitian women.
وأضافت أن الحكومة بسعيها إلى جعل تشريعاتها متمشية مع المعاهدات الدولية التي وقَّعت وصدَّقت عليها هايتي تبرهن على التزامها السياسي الصادق بإعادة حقوق المرأة في هايتي.

9. Haitian women were active participants in the country's economy, yet their contribution was not adequately recognized and valued.

26. The situation of Haitian women had improved in recent decades as a result of the constant efforts made by women's organizations at the national level and the support of international organizations and civil society groups.
26 - ومضت قائلة إن وضع المرأة في هايتي قد تحسّن في العقود الأخيرة نتيجة الجهود المتواصلة التي تبذلها المنظمات النسائية على الصعيد الدولي والدعم الذي تقدمه المنظمات الدولية ومجموعات المجتمع المدني.
