Ms. Abdelhady-Nasser (Observer for the State of Palestine) said that the international community had witnessed and documented in real time the reality of the Gaza tragedy as the Israeli occupying forces' missiles, artillery and sophisticated weaponry had killed over 2,000 people deliberately and wantonly and wounded over 11,000 innocent civilians of all ages.

Ms. Barghouti (Observer for the State of Palestine) said that while there had been many significant achievements in the advancement and empowerment of women, many challenges and constraints continued to hinder the full implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and Security Council resolution 1325 (2000) on women, peace and security.

Ms. Mansour (Observer for the State of Palestine) stressed the magnitude of the damage inflicted upon children and their families by Israel's recent bombardment of Gaza, citing an estimate by UNICEF that 373,000 children in the region were in urgent need of direct and specialized psychosocial support.

Ms. Rasheed (Observer for the State of Palestine) said that her delegation deeply regretted that the occupying Power had continued to obstruct the efforts of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 to fulfil his mandate, despite its assurances that it would cooperate.

Ms. Abdelhady-Nasser (Observer for the State of Palestine) said that her country deeply appreciated the Committee's adoption of the four draft resolutions, which reaffirmed key principles and positions regarding the question of Palestine, and she trusted that those resolutions would receive strong backing from the international community when action was taken on them in the General Assembly.

Ms. Bar-Sadeh (Israel), speaking in exercise of the right of reply, said that by repeating baseless accusations at the Committee's previous meeting, the Observer for the State of Palestine had once again trampled on the Committee's procedures in the same way that Palestinians trampled on the rights of their own children, using them as suicide bombers against Israeli children and poisoning their minds with lies about Israel.

Ms. Barghouti (Observer for the State of Palestine) said that her delegation appreciated the efforts of the Department to implement many important information programmes, in particular the special information programme on the question of Palestine, which was instrumental in raising international awareness of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, as part of efforts to reach a just and lasting solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
