I am pleased that the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific is now operational in Kathmandu 20 years after it was established by this Assembly.

The Officer would provide substantive support and strategic guidance to the Representative of the Secretary-General and the Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, and assist in the preparation of reports to the Security Council, as required.
وسيقدم الموظف الدعم الفني والتوجيه الاستراتيجي لممثل الأمين العام ولرئيس المركز الإقليمي للأمم المتحدة للدبلوماسية الوقائية لوسط آسيا، ويساعد في إعداد تقارير مجلس الأمن حسب الاقتضاء.

Hence the importance for Africa of the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa and the need to provide sufficient resources for the activities of the Centre.

In that context, we appreciate the establishment at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, and express our readiness to closely cooperate with the Centre and our neighbours in order to strengthen regional capacities for conflict prevention.

2. Welcomes the continental dimension of the activities of the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa in response to the evolving needs of African Member States in the areas of disarmament, peace and security;

163. The Political Affairs Officer (P-4) would serve as desk officer covering Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and the work of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.

164. The Political Affairs Officer (P-3) would serve as desk officer covering Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, regional organizations and the work of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.

3. The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, located in Lima, was established in 1987, pursuant to General Assembly resolution 41/60 J. It is part of the Regional Disarmament Branch of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs.

The Information Centre in Kathmandu organized a press conference during the conference on illicit small arms issues organized by the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific in Kathmandu in June 2009.
أما مركز الإعلام في كاتامندو فقد هيأ مؤتمراً صحفياً خلال المؤتمر المعقود بشأن الاتجار غير المشروع في الأسلحة الصغيرة وقد نظمه المركز الإقليمي للأمم المتحدة للسلام ونزع السلاح في آسيا ومنطقة المحيط الهادي في كاتاماندو في شهر حزيران/يونيه 2009.
