The principle of sovereign equality, in addition to being an established customary rule, was affirmed in Article 2, paragraph 1, of the Charter of the United Nations, which states: " The Organization is based on the principle of the sovereign equality of all its Members. "
إن مبدأ المساواة في السيادة باﻹضافة إلى كونه قاعدة عرفية ثابتة أكدته الفقرة اﻷولى من المادة الثانية من ميثاق اﻷمم المتحدة التي نصت علي: " تقوم الهيئة على مبدأ المساواة في السيادة بين جميع أعضائها " .

The threat or use of coercive economic measures constitutes a flagrant violation of the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and international law, in particular of Article 2, paragraph 1, of the Charter, which states, “The Organization is based on the principle of the sovereign equality of all its Members”.
٢ - إن استخدام التدابير الاقتصادية القسرية أو حتى التلويح باستخدامها يشكل انتهاكا صريحا للمبادئ التي قام عليها ميثاق اﻷمم المتحدة والقانون الدولي ويشكل أساس الفقرة ١ من المادة الثانية من الميثاق التي أكدت قيام " الهيئة على مبدأ المساواة في السيادة بين جميع أعضائها " .

Article 2 (1) provides that the Organisation itself is based on " the principle of the sovereign equality of all its Members " , while article 2 (4) declares that " [a]ll Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state ... " .
فالمادة 2 (1) تنص على أن المنظمة نفسها تقوم على " مبدأ المساواة في السيادة بين جميع أعضائها " ، بينما تعلن المادة 2 (4) عن " [امتناع الأعضاء] جميعا في علاقاتهم الدولية عن التهديد باستعمال القوة أو استخدامها ضد سلامة الأراضي أو الاستقلال السياسي لأية دولة ... " .

Mr. Hasan (Iraq) (spoke in Arabic): The use or threat of use of coercive economic measures as a means of political and economic compulsion is a flagrant violation of the principles embodied in the United Nations Charter and international law, particularly in Article 2, paragraph 1 of the Charter stipulating that the Organization is based on the principle of the sovereign equality of all its Members.
