Therefore, as circumstances had changed, it might become necessary to change the Treaty to reflect those new realities.26

31. With regard to the situation in the Middle East, the international community should maintain pressure on the only State in the region which was not a party to the Treaty to agree to place its nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards as a contribution to confidence-building and the non-proliferation regime, and to regional and world peace.
31 - وأردف فيما يتعلق بالوضع في الشرق الأوسط، أنه ينبغي على المجتمع الدولي أن يواصل الضغط على الدولة الوحيدة في المنطقة التي ليست عضوًا في المعاهدة لكي توافق على وضع مرافقها النووية تحت ضمانات الوكالة الدولية للطاقة الذرية كمساهمة في بناء الثقة في نظام عدم الانتشار، وفي السلام الإقليمي والدولي.

177. Each State Party shall also exercise its best endeavours upon the entry into force of the Treaty to provide to the Technical Secretariat, and at annual intervals thereafter to update, information relating to its national use of non-nuclear explosions greater than 300 tonnes TNT-equivalent.
٧٧١- على كل دولة طرف أيضا بذل قصارى جهدها عند بدء نفاذ المعاهدة لكي توفر لﻷمانة الفنية معلومات تحدﱢثها بعد ذلك على فترات سنوية، تتصل باستخدامها الوطني لتفجيرات غير نووية تكافئ أكثر من ٠٠٣ طن من مادة تي إن تي.

Therefore Egypt cannot support the indefinite extension of the Treaty in those circumstances and has opted for a definite extension of the Treaty. For the Treaty to be indefinite, it should be universal and without discrimination between the Parties.
فإن وفد مصر يسجل موقفه بأن يؤكد أن مصر لا تؤيد المد اللانهائي في ظل الاعتبارات الموضوعية واﻷمنية السابق اﻹشارة إليها، وعليه فإن مصر لم تنضم إلى الدول التي اختارت المد اللانهائي، حيث أن المعاهدة لكي تكون أبدية فإنها يجب أن تكون عالمية دون أي تمييز وباتفاق جميع اﻷطراف.
