Within the framework of the global forum function, the organization implements programmes in the following fields: industrial policy advice based on action-oriented research; institutional capacity-building at the country and sectoral levels; quality, standardization and metrology; industrial information through networking, including information on the transfer of technology; and industrial statistics.

A number of recent and ongoing activities are aimed at strengthening ECDC/TCDC-related aspects of information sources, including the assignment of the TCDC-INRES (Information Referral System) database to the industrial information Section of UNIDO as a logical extension of its information work in support of South-South cooperation.
١١١ - ويهدف عدد من اﻷنشطة التي نفذت في اﻵونة اﻷخيرة واﻷنشطة اﻷخرى الجارية إلى تعزيز جوانب مصادر المعلومات ذات الصلة بالتعاون الاقتصادي والتقني فيما بين البلدان النامية، بما في ذلك إناطة قاعدة البيانات المتعلقة بالتعاون التقني فيما بين البلدان النامية )نظام اﻹحالة إلى مصادر المعلومات( بقسم المعلومات الصناعية بوصف ذلك امتدادا منطقيا لعمله في مجال المعلومات الذي يقوم به لدعم التعاون بين بلدان الجنوب.

Capacity-building in industrial information services: Assessment of the needs for the establishment of an effective information networking among enterprises at national, regional and international levels was carried out in 1997 in 18 African and five Asian least developed countries as a direct response to the recommendations of the Third LDC Ministerial Symposium.
٤ - بناء القدرات في ميدان خدمات المعلومات الصناعية : وقد أجري في عام ١٩٩٧ تقدير للاحتياجات الخاصة بإنشاء شبكات معلومات فعالة تربط بين المنشآت على الصعيد الوطني واﻹقليمي والدولي في ١٨ بلدا افريقيا و ٥ بلدان آسيوية من أقل البلدان نموا ، كاستجابة مباشرة لتوصيات الندوة الوزارية الثالثة المعنية بأقل البلدان نموا .
