According to the Special Rapporteur on traditional practices affecting the health of women and the girl child, the practice of forced marriage deserved increased scrutiny by the international community, as this practice would not be eradicated until women were considered full and equal participants in the social, economic, cultural and political life of their communities.
وذكرت المقررة الخاصة المعنية بالممارسات التقليدية الضارة بصحة المرأة والطفلة أن ممارسة الزواج بالإكراه تتطلب تمحيصا متزايدا من قبل المجتمع الدولي، نظرا إلى أن القضاء عليها لن يتم إلا إذا اعتُبرت المرأة شريكة على قدم المساواة في الحياة الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والثقافية والسياسية لمجتمعاتها.

A number of affiliated African societies, such as the Ethiopian, Kenyan and Somalian Societies, are working closely with the Inter-African Committee on traditional practices affecting the Health of Women and Children, distributing information on the undesirable practices of female genital mutilation and providing it with technical assistance.

The renewal of the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on Harmful Traditional Practices affecting the health of women and the girl child (resolution 2003/28);

It also approved a decision by the Subcommission to renew the mandate of the special rapporteur on Harmful Traditional Practices affecting the health of women and the girl child for a further three years (decision 2004/111).
كما وافقت على قرار اللجنة الفرعية بأن تجدد لفترة ثلاث سنوات إضافية الولاية المسندة إلى المقررة الخاصة المعنية بالممارسات التقليدية الضارة التي تؤثر على صحة المرأة والطفلة (المقرر 2004/111).

Countries in all parts of the world were working to address that problem; the Secretary-General had issued an in-depth study on all forms of violence against women (A/61/122/Add.1) in 2006 and the Committee of the Niger on Harmful Traditional Practices (CONIPRAT) had been in existence since 1990.

The Committee welcomes the criminalization of harmful traditional practices in the revised Criminal Code of 2005, and notes with appreciation the efforts undertaken by the National Committee on Harmful Traditional Practices in Ethiopia to document and combat the practice of female genital mutilation (FGM).

In resolution 2004/23, the Special Rapporteur on traditional practices affecting the health of women and the girl child was requested to submit an updated report at its fifty-seventh session.

She also received submissions from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Bank, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Inter-African Committee on traditional practices affecting the Health of Women and Children.
