The morning was devoted to statements by the Rapporteur of the Committee, who gave an introduction to the subject, and Mr. Bengt Lindqvist, Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Social Development on Disabilities.

The Special Rapporteur on disability notes, for instance, that 85 per cent of Governments responding to his 1995 questionnaire for the second round of monitoring of the Standard Rules reported the existence of a national disability policy.

Before concluding, I would like to welcome the decision made by the Economic and Social Council earlier this year to renew the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on disability for another three years.

Also requests the SecretaryGeneral to make available to the Commission at its fiftyseventh session the latest report of the Special Rapporteur on disability of the Commission for Social Development on his monitoring of the Standard Rules on the Equalization of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities;
21- تطلب أيضاً إلى الأمين العام أن يتيح للجنة في دورتها السابعة والخمسين آخر تقرير للمقرر الخاص للجنة التنمية الاجتماعية المعني بالعجز عن رصده للقواعد الموحدة بشأن تحقيق تكافؤ الفرص للمعوقين؛

5. Takes note of the global survey of government action on disability policy published in 1997 by the office of the Special Rapporteur on disability;

485. At the 25th and 26th meetings, on 31 March and 1 April 1998, the Special Rapporteur on disability of the Commission for Social Development, Mr. Bengt Lindqvist, made statements.
٥٨٤- وفي الجلستين ٥٢ و٦٢، المعقودتين في ١٣ آذار/مارس و١ نيسان/أبريل ٨٩٩١، أدلى ببيانات المقرر الخاص المعني بالعجز والتابع للجنة التنمية الاجتماعية، السيد بنغت ليندكفست.

19. The Open-ended International Working Group on disability and Development represents a hybrid form of cooperation between the non-governmental community, bilateral donor agencies and interested international organizations.
١٩- ويمثل الفريق العامل الدولي المفتوح باب العضوية المعني بالعجز والتنمية نتاجا للتعاون بين قطاع المنظمات غير الحكومية، ووكالات المانحين الثنائيين والمنظمات الدولية المهتمة باﻷمر.

63. The Special Rapporteur on disability of the Commission for Social Development has been requested to report every two years on his activities to the Commission on Human Rights.
63 - وطُلب إلى المقرر الخاص للجنة التنمية الاجتماعية المعني بالعجز تقديم تقرير عن أنشطته إلى لجنة حقوق الإنسان كل سنتين.

64. Further to Commission resolution 2000/51, the Special Rapporteur on disability organized a seminar to discuss ways and means to implement the resolution and strengthen the human rights dimension in the disability debate.
64 - وعملا بقرار اللجنة 2000/51، نظم المقرر الخاص المعني بالعجز حلقة دراسية لمناقشة سبل ووسائل تنفيذ هذا القرار وتعزيز بُعد حقوق الإنسان في النقاش المتعلق بالإعاقة.

42. Two new coordination mechanisms have been introduced since the end of the Decade. The Special Rapporteur on disability, assisted by a panel of experts, promotes action, principally at the interregional level, in support of the Standard Rules.
٤٢ - وجرى اﻷخذ بآليتي تنسيق جديدتين منذ انتهاء العقد وهما: المقرر الخاص المعني بالعجز والذي يساعده فريق من الخبراء ويعمل أساسا على تعزيز العمل، ولا سيما على الصعيد اﻷقاليمي لدعم القواعد الموحدة.

The Special Rapporteur on disability reports yearly to the Commission for Social Development, presenting findings on the promotion and monitoring of the implementation of the Standard Rules as well as recommendations, as requested by the Commission, on their further development.
ويقدم المقرر الخاص المعني بالعجز إلى لجنة التنمية المستدامة تقريرا سنويا يعرض فيه ما توصل إليه من نتائج بشأن تعزيز تنفيذ القواعد الموحدة والتوصيات المتعلقة بالمضي في تطويرها ومتابعة هذا التنفيذ، وذلك على نحو ما طلبته اللجنة.
