Work continued towards the development of a new common health questionnaire instrument, building on the work already carried out by national and international organizations with regard to health surveys, and in coordination with existing groups such as the Statistical Office of the European Communities (Eurostat) group on health information systems and the Washington Group on Disability Measurement (city group).

The expert meeting on Disability Measurement for ESCWA countries (Cairo, 1-5 June 2002) noted the need to improve the quality of regional disability data, making appropriate use of the World Health Organization (WHO) International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Healthd and building on substantive contributions of the Washington Group on Disability Measurement.
