6. Welcomes the cooperation extended by those countries that received a visit by the Special Rapporteur on the use of mercenaries as a means of violating human rights and impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to self-determination;

The Commission welcomed the report presented by the Special Rapporteur on the use of mercenaries and the efforts made by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights in organizing the second meeting of experts on traditional and new forms of mercenary activities.

25. One of the chief motives for creating the function of Special Rapporteur on the use of mercenaries was the intention of the United Nations to contribute to the effective exercise of the right of the African peoples to self-determination.
25- من أهم دواعي إنشاء مكتب المقرر الخاص المعني بمسألة استخدام المرتزقة رغبة الأمم المتحدة في الإسهام في ممارسة الشعوب الأفريقية لحقها في تقرير المصير ممارسة فعلية.

3. Under paragraph 2 of resolution 2004/5, the Commission decided to renew the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the use of mercenaries as a means of impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to selfdetermination, for a period of three years.
3- قررت اللجنة في الفقرة 2 من قرارها 2004/15 أن تمدد ولاية المقرر الخاص المعني بمسألة استخدام المرتزقة كوسيلة لإعاقة ممارسة حق الشعوب في تقرير المصير لمدة ثلاث سنوات.

(a) The decision of the Commission to extend the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the use of mercenaries as a means of impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to self-determination for a period of three years;

52. His delegation welcomed the report of the Special Rapporteur on the use of mercenaries (A/57/178), and agreed that the lack of a clear legal definition of mercenaries had increased their illegal activities and had led them to carry out terrorist acts.
52 - وأضاف أن وفده يرحب بتقرير المقرر الخاص المعني بمسألة استخدام المرتزقة (A/57/178)، ويوافق على أن عدم وجود تعريف قانوني واضح للمرتزقة زاد أنشطتهم غير المشروعة وأدى بهم إلى ارتكاب أعمال إرهابية.

The Economic and Social Council, taking note of Commission on Human Rights resolution 2004/5 of 8 April 2004, approves the decision of the Commission to extend the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the use of mercenaries as a means of impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to selfdetermination for a period of three years.
إن المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي، إذ يحيط علماً بقرار لجنة حقوق الإنسان 2004/5 المؤرخ 8 نيسان/أبريل 2004، يؤيد مقرر اللجنة أن تمدد لفترة ثلاث سنوات ولاية المقرر الخاص المعني بمسألة استخدام المرتزقة كوسيلة لإعاقة ممارسة حق الشعوب في تقرير المصير.

At its 48th plenary meeting, on 22 July 2004, the Economic and Social Council took note of Commission on Human Rights resolution 2004/5289 of 8 April 2004, and approved the decision of the Commission to extend the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the use of mercenaries as a means of impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to self-determination for a period of three years.
إن المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي، الذي انعقد في جلسته العامة 48، في 22 تموز/ يوليه 2004، إذ أحاط علماً بقرار لجنة حقوق الإنسان 2004/5 المؤرخ 8 نيسان/أبريل 2004، أيد مقرر اللجنة أن تمدد لفترة ثلاث سنوات ولاية المقرر الخاص المعني بمسألة استخدام المرتزقة كوسيلة لإعاقة ممارسة حق الشعوب في تقرير المصير.

The Special Rapporteur on mercenaries concluded that attacks designed to damage tourism in Cuba, thereby flouting fundamental rights of the Cuban people and basic principles of international law, had been carried out in 1997 for financial gain by foreigners, who had been recruited, trained, hired and funded by third parties of Cuban origin acting outside the territory of Cuba.
52- وخلص المقرر الخاص المعني بمسألة استخدام المرتزقة إلى أن هجمات مختلفة صُممت لإلحاق الضرر بالسياحة وشنت على كوبا في عام 1997، بما تنطوي عليه من انتهاك للحقوق الأساسية للشعب الكوبي والمبادئ الأساسية للقانون الدولي، وهي هجمات نفذها من أجل الكسب المالي أجانب جندوا ودربوا واستؤجروا وموّلوا من أطراف ثالثة ذات أصل كوبي يعملون خارج أراضي كوبا(128).
